Muar catat bacaan IPU 746:

Muar mencatatkan bacaan Indeks Pencemaran Udara (IPU) paling tinggi di Malaysia pada pagi ini dengan bacaan IPU 746.

Bacaan ini sudah dianggap sebagai kritikal dan boleh menyebabkan pelbagai komplikasi kesihatan kepada penduduk setempat.

Semasa jerebu teruk yang berlaku pada tahun 1997, negeri Sarawak mencatat IPU 800 dan negeri itu diisytiharkan darurat jerebu selama hampir seminggu.

Semasa jerebu pada tahun 2005 pula, pengisytiharkan darurat jerebu dibuat di seluruh kawasan Kuala Selangor dan Pelabuhan Klang selepas kedua kawasan tersebut masing-masing mencatatkan bacaan 531 dan 529.

IPU pada tahap antara 0 dan 50 adalah baik, sederhana (51-100), tidak sihat (101-200), sangat tidak sihat (201-300) dan berbahaya (lebih 301).

Turut termasuk dalam tahap berbahaya ialah Bandaraya Melaka dan Bukit Rambai yang masing-masing mencatatkan bacaan 357 dan 334.

Sementara itu, kebanyakkan kawasan di Lembah Klang termasuk Cheras, Petaling Jaya dan Shah Alam yang sebelum ini mempunyai kualiti udara yang sederhana, mencatatkan kualiti udara tidak sihat setakat pukul 7 pagi ini.

Sejumlah 67 peratus daripada bandar-bandar di Malaysia mencatatkan bacaan IPU yang sederhana manakala 23 peratus lagi mencatatkan bacaan IPU yang tidak sihat.

Hanya 6 peratus sahaja kawasan yang masih lagi mempunyai kualiti udara yang baik.
